Just four years ago Derrick Rose won the MVP award, flash-forward to today and he’s nominated for ESPYS Best Comeback Athlete award after missing almost two and a half seasons.

It’s been a long road for Derrick Rose, a road that’s filled with heartache and pain. A road that was once filled with cheers but now filled haunted memories of his greatness. The path for Rose’s success has been long and a bit redundant at times. Injuries after injuries, heartaches after heartaches.

Finally, Derrick Rose was able to turn things around last season for the most part. Rose still missed close to eight weeks with a meniscus repair surgery towards the end of the season. However, his comeback helped the Bulls make a strong push in the playoffs. He hit the ground running in the playoffs as he averaged 20.3 points per game.

The former MVP averaged 17.7 points per game this season while playing 51 games. Rose played just 10 games prior to this season since 2012.

It’s been a long journey for Derrick Rose since his MVP season, and now he’ll compete with Rob Gronkowski, Alex Rodriguez, and Lindsey Vonn for 2015 Best Comeback Athlete.
