Just one day after Los Angles Daily News breaks the story that Jimmy Butler wants to sign a one-year deal with the Lakers, the story line shifts according to ESPN’s Chris Broussard. Jimmy Butler postponed his meetings with Lakers, Celtics, Sixers, and Mavericks after he received his max offer from the Bulls according to Broussard.

The narrative of Butler wanting to leave Chicago never had the legs underneath that rumor. If Butler was talking to the Lakers, it’s clear he was trying to gain leverage in order to get the deal he wanted from Chicago. The Bulls and Butler mutually want him to return to Chicago despite the buzz around the league. The only discussion at this point is number of years.
