Derrick Rose began participating in non-contact drills this week as he makes his way back onto the court. Rose was fitted for a mask that had him wondering if he’ll keep it for the remainder of his career.

“When I first put it on it was a little uncomfortable, but through practice I got more comfortable with it. It feels alright. I took the one that is kind of similar to Westbrook’s where it doesn’t have anything guarding the nose. I can breathe better.” – Derrick Rose on mask

Many players opt to wear the mask longer than prescribed. Rip Hamilton chose to wear the mask for the rest of his career because of the sense of security around his face. Mike Conley will continue to wear his mask a bit longer this season even though he’s allowed to remove it.

“Everybody knows why I’m here. It’s all about winning. The No. 1 goal is to win the championship.” – Derrick Rose regarding media day comments

Derrick Rose tried to redeem his comments from media day about his desire for landing another big max contract in 2017. It seems clear that Rose puts himself in an unnecessary corner at times, but he always manages to redeem himself.
