The day that nobody saw coming except Jimmy Butler, it’s the day he’s walking-the-walk about playing the point guard position. Butler made headlining news over the summer after he spoke about his desire to play the point guard role. Most fans laughed at him, a few number of them supported him, but Butler never seems to disappoint as he’s proving that he could handle the role verbally and physically.

“You have to realize the game isn’t always about scoring. It’s not all about you. You have to be able to find the open guy because we have a hell of lot of shooters on this team. Whether it’s Niko (Mirotic), Doug; Joakim wants to shoot threes now (laughing). We have a lot of guys who can put the ball in the basket. So it’s going to be my job to get them the ball where they are comfortable.” – Jimmy Butler

With Derrick Rose out during the preseason, Jimmy Butler has the freedom on the court to play the combo guard role. Butler backed up his bold request with two sold games as a play-maker. While scoring 23 efficient points in the first game, he tagged that stat-line with six assists in just 25 minutes. Butler continued his strong play-making ability in the second game against the Nuggets as he dished out four assists in just the first half. Hoiberg opted to rest Butler the entire second half.

It seems Butler isn’t just playing like a point guard, but he’s making comments like one too. To find the open man for the easy jump-shot is on top of his priority list. It’s always interesting to see what Butler will be adding next to his game, but it seems like play-making is officially part of his resume.
