The 19 year old rookie has had a lot to say within a short 24-hour span. From apologies to quotes that will make you scratch your head. He’s saying all the right things, except it happens to be said in third person.

19 years from now, they’ll say Bobby Portis was the best player in the draft.” – Bobby Portis.

Many analyst are comparing his passion to Kevin Garnett back when he was a rookie; during the Jurassic era to be exact. It’s unseen how good Portis will be, but it’s good to see the rookie having confidence coming into the league. That’s something Doug McDermott and Tony Snell lacked when they joined the Bulls; Thibodeau didn’t help with that either. There’s a long list of guys ahead of Bortis in the rotation, but that doesn’t phase him one bit at all.

Portis: “Some players play to play; I play to win; coach puts me out there 4,5 minutes you know Bobby Portis is going to give his all.”

“I like Fred Hoiberg. He lets his players play. If you can do something, he’ll let you do it. If you can dribble, he’ll let you dribble as a big. He’ll let you show your versatility and everything.”- Bobby Portis

Bobby Portis is saying all the right things, but only time will tell if he actually does the right things. A player of his talent and passion might feel restless not playing in games; especially if he feels he can help the Bulls immediately. It’s undermined at this point what the Bulls plans are moving forward. Do they trade Taj Gibson? Do they pull a Thibodeau and have Bortis observe from the bench the entire season? There are a lot of questions marks moving forward; but all will be figured out before we know it.
