The Chicago Bulls haven’t made any major moves besides hiring Fred Hoiberg this summer. The front office’s selling point to the fan base is Nikola Mirotic’s development. In just his second season, the Bulls front office are hoping his development will be astronomically better to push them over the top with the help of Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler.

To put all their eggs in Nikola Mirotic’s basket may not be a bad idea, it for sure isn’t a risky move. Mirotic, age 24, is entering his sophomore season in the NBA. His progression is bound to take off under Hoiberg, but it could take more than one rookie season to put him in a major role. After all, he’ll be battling Taj Gibson and Pau Gasol for a starting position.

Nikola Mirotic did not disappoint his rookie season. All eyes were on Doug McDermott going into the season but the attention quickly shifted towards the European star. Mirotic picked up Rookie of the Month honor twice and was selected to NBA All-Rookie First Team. Mirotic also came in second place behind Andrew Wiggins for Rookie of the Year honors.

When Nikola Mirotic was given time to play, he performed every second he was on the court. He averaged 18.1 points per game with 8.8 rebounds per game in PER 36 minute stats in his rookie season. So if Hoiberg finds minutes for Mirotic, there’s a very good chance he’ll produce big time.

Regular Season stats: 15.6 PPG, 6.5 RPG, 1.2 APG, 43.3% FG, 34% 3pt FG.

Allstar appearance: No
